Narrative

Exploring the essence of faces, where colour and the brush can sing.

There is a unique thrill in painting a face within a narrative; rendering an image where expression is silent communication. It feels direct and from the heart as well as the mind, especially when a particular face resonates. My creative process is a journey through memory and imagination, striving to render a face imbued with subtle emotion, set against a backdrop that suggests a story, at a reason to exist.

I’ve enjoyed many genres of painting practiced over decades, but none involve me as deeply as portraying people. It’s an intriguing experience; I often find myself embodying the emotions I wish to express, as though channeling them through my brush and onto the canvas. Fortunately, my work rarely conveys drama; instead it often reflects contemplation, hope, wonder, gratitude and quiet joy.

I hope viewers might glimpse some of this in my work.
